Message Over the years I have collected a significant number of these stock rods and have often pondered doing something just like what you are proposing, but after careful thought and consideration i came to the conclusion that in order to refurbish a set of stock rods properly you are left with a very small profit margin.

Hear me out, you get a motor in that the owner wants to get "built" so you take his stock rods and refurbish them. They came out of a perfectly running engine, but before you sell them or put them into another customers engine that I would put my name on the first thing that I would do is have them magnafluxed to check for cracks, then I would check the big ends to make sure they are not out of round and if they are then you have to cut the rods and the caps and line bore the holes back to spec. You will also obviously need a new set of rod bolts, Arp being the only rational choice. Then on the small end you probably will want to change the bronze bushings then pin fit hone them.

After that you spoke about lightening and polishing them. Great idea but removing material and polishing a rod, if not done correctly can cause stress risers. But if done correctly you are still talking about a significant amount of time to rework 6 rods. Then you spoke about cryo treating them, to do this you are probably looking at approximately 50 per set.

Now I didn't throw too many price figures at you, but anyone who has had experience with the above procedures know that each step is not expensive, but there are enough individual items to make a brand new set of Eagles for a little over 400 these day a little more cost effective and appealing.
